Joe Stuby & Rocking Horse

A sound deeply rooted in the blues with a hard hitting heavy funk/rock groove is what you will hear when Joe Stuby & Rocking Horse perform. Influences such as Jimi Hendrix, Paliament/Funkadelic, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Sly Stone form the core of the sound as spontaneity and improvisation highlight their live shows. This Blues/Funk/Rock JamBand crossover provides an exciting and passionate journey every time they take the stage.
Originally formed by guitarist/songwriter/singer Joe Stuby, during the vibrant early 90’s underground of NYC’s East Village. It was while performing at clubs such as CBGB’s , Nightingales, Dan Lynch Blues Bar and Wetlands that Joe began to craft a sound that would attract the ears and talents of two of Rock and Funk’s greatest musicians.
In August of ‘96 a chance meeting in Bethel NY leads to Joe & Co. opening for legendary Rock/Soul drummer Buddy Miles at a Woodstock Reunion on the property of Woodstock land owner Max Yasgur. Miles has worked with many of Rock’s greatest guitar players such as Carlos Santana, Mike Bloomfield and Jimi Hendrix. After opening for Buddy with Rocking Horse, Joe was invited to be Buddy’s guitarist for the night, jamming together until the early am. This leads Miles to prompt Joe to record his 1st record “Searching the Constellations for Love” (1997), on which Miles plays and produces on two songs. The record received great reviews in Relix “distinct Hendrix feel to Stuby’s playing with strong Funk and Psychedelic elements make for an interesting fusion” and the international Hendrix mag Univibes “ strongly reminiscent and agreeably so of Band of Gypsies -era Hendrix“, among other publications. Joe and Buddy continued to jam together over the years , especially when Buddy would perform in NYC.
“Searching the Constellations for Love” then lands in the hands of  P-Funk wizard Bernie Worrell. Upon hearing the cd and seeing the band live , Worrell offered to play on and produce a 2nd cd with Joe Stuby and Rocking Horse. This leads to “Cosmic Soul” (2002) .  Worrell plays on 8 tracks and co-produced the entire cd , collaborating on the writing as well. “Hendrix meets P-Funk” said NJ’s Courier News , as the paper named “Cosmic Soul” one of the top 10 records of the year. The record thrived as it received radio play on over 150 station across the US and abroad. Both records have been sold on every continent in the World. Joe and Co. played many many clubs, bars and festivals on the strength of the 1st two records, entertaining and attracting audiences throughout NJ, NY and PA.
Stuby and Worrell have now teamed up to record the band’s 3rd record, and epic 2 disc work titled “Ying is Yang” . This record brings  the full force of all their influences together into a unique sound of its own. 22 brand new songs featuring fantastic work by everyone involved, particularly Worrell’s keyboard wizardry and Stuby’s continually expanding and soulful guitar playing make this record a must have. So far the early returns from people who have heard some pre-release copies are extremely positive. ‘Ying is Yang” is poised to be Joe Stuby & Rocking Horse’s best and most successful record to date.
